New Look, Same Socamom!

Change is good!

It has been just about a year since Socamom.com officially launched! (The site went live in March 2011, but we had like... 10 pageviews or something.  I think that they all were me.)  I wanted to launch it last year in time for Caribbean American Heritage month. It is Caribbean American Heritage month again, and Socamom.com is starting the new year with a new look! New menus should make stories and events easier to find, and the more "blog-like" layout should make it easier to navigate.

We have gone through some re-branding over the last few months with the last family/blog photo shoot we did. Now with new business cards and media kit, we are ready for year two.

There are a few more things on my wish list for Socamom.com's second year.

  • More activity in the forum - I'd love for our Caribbean American moms to share with each other more in the forum.
  • More giveaways - I am definitely a "try before you buy" kind of woman, and giveaways are a great way to get that done... for free! We have a fantastic points system in place for members to earn giveaway and product opportunities just for being active on the site!
  • More technical tutorials - I am a geek. I am not ashamed. My friends call me to help them fix stuff, find out what tools are out there, and sometimes, they share screens with me while I work.
  • More fast (and affordable) fashion for moms - I have a thing for the fabulous. Especially shoes. This is not a full on fashion blog, but moms need to be cute too, so when I find something fashionable and affordable, I will definitely share.
  • More travel - I rely on blogger reviews A LOT when I travel. I will be sharing even more packing lists and reviews in year two.

I am so glad that you are joining me for our second year. Thank you for making our first year fantastic!

About the re-design:

I use Joomla for my blog. Nothing against WordPress or Blogger or any of those - I just really like Joomla.

I got my photos taken at the Picture People. I am a bold somebody when I go into the Picture People. I know exactly what I want, the props I need, and the poses that I have in my mind. I come in with my list, and the photographers are kind enough to work with me.

The lovely background image is from my trip to Miami for Blogalicious 2010. I used Photoshop to remove the people in the water... and the seaweed... and the cruise ships.

The header image with the HTML and CSS markup is my geek showing.
