10 Days of Anancy!

10 Days of Anancy: Day Eight - Anancy's Family Reunion is Here!

I can't think of a better way to celebrate Caribbean American Heritage month than with a family reunion!  I'd like to officially introduce you to my first published children's book, Anancy's Family Reunion.

Those who attend the Anancy Festival in Washington, DC will get a free copy of Anancy's Family Reunion when they pre-register for the event at www.anancyfestivaldc.eventbrite.com.

In Anancy's Family Reunion, Anancy has been up to his old tricks, but a visit from family will change everything – or will it?  This new and imaginative take on Anancy folklore will reintroduce a new generation of children to a character deeply rooted in African and Caribbean oral tradition.  Anancy's Family Reunion is appropriate for all ages, and children with reading abilities at the third grade (US) or year four (UK) level can read the book independently.  Adults will enjoy a return to their childhood while they share a new story with their children about a character from their youth.

10 Days of Anancy: Day Five - Anancy Spider Snacks

In our house, playing with your food is almost never allowed... Almost.

There are so many cool snacks that you can shape into spiders, how can Anancy fans resist playing with our food just a little!

How about spider snacks made of marshmallows, melted chocolate, and pretzel sticks?

You'll need a skewer (you can get about 100 for $2 at the grocery store), melted chocolate (not super hot, just melted so that it doesn't melt the marshmallow), and pretzel sticks.

Add pretzel legs to the sides of the marshmallow, stick skewer in the end, and dip in chocolate. Set in the fridge to harden, then enjoy.

The ladies over at KidsActivitiesblog.com have a healthier alternative that you may want to check out using bananas, raisins, and pretzels.
