I have a long day ahead of me, so I relaxed this morning with my tea and some blog reading. Here’s what I checked out today. Feel free to stop by their blogs and tell them SocaMom sent you!
http://thesassyfitmom.com/ – Today I commented on her post about what to do when you discipline your child by mistake. Here’s my comment. Feel free to check out her blog and leave one of your own. @ms_resilient on Twitter
“Oh wow! My kids realized that I could make mistakes a little while ago. I apologize pretty quickly, and they forgive and forget. It does bruise my “mommy is always right” ego though… I have never done gifts or anything to make up for it. I think they need to know that my apology and their forgiveness makes us even. Very cool of you to post this!”
http://daniel-dinnie.blogspot.com/2012/08/why-children-shouldnt-watch-scary-movies.html – How do you feel about letting your kids watch scary movies? I am more into sci-fi than scary, and my youngest avoid all things frightening, but the oldest wants to scare himself so badly (!), he can’t wait for me to let him see the intense movies. Here was my comment. @daniel_dinnie on Twitter
“I just had this conversation with my kids. The song Ghostbusters came on the Kids station on XM radio, and the oldest asked me about the movie. I told him about the time that my sitter took me with her to see it. It had just come out, and she wanted to see it, but she was stuck babysitting me. She took me with her, and told me not to tell. I slept in my parents’ room for over a week. I was just WAY too young to see it, and even though I have seen some really scary stuff since then, THAT movie is still one of my least favorites – and if I have to watch it, I’ll probably need to hold a hand.”
“I don’t expose my kids to scary movies at all. Even Scooby-Doo is off limits for my younger ones because my kids tend to take a concept they don’t understand (like the undead) and run with it anyway… and end up in my bed… and I need my sleep. We stage age appropriate, and even then, the ratings mean what we say they mean. Some PG movies, especially older ones, are not really PG when you go back and look at it, and some PG-13 stuff should be rated R. If we think it is too much, they don’t see it.”
http://www.keepthetailwagging.com/national-mutt-day/ – I told my oldest that it was National Mutt Day… He just said blankly – “Maggy’s not a mutt.” I told him that she is a mix of two breeds, so she is a mutt. He kept looking at me like I had called her a bitch. Which she is. Here is my comment. @thefurmom on Twitter
“I told my son that it was National Mutt Day – he said Maggy wasn’t a mutt. I explained to him that she was, and he seemed a little offended. Never one to turn down a party – especially for his dog, he waited a while then asked me what we would do to celebrate. I did have the idea that mutts don’t get as sick as other dogs, and are therefore less expensive. That was until I had one! We have a pet care plan, but didn’t consider insurance. I’ll check that out…”
http://therunwaytimes.com/b-is-for-branding-your-brand-is-a-meltingpot/ – Met @tyraslilsis at Blogging While Brown this year. Here is a post she wrote about branding. If you blog or own a business, check it out. Here is part of my comment. @tyraslilsis on Twitter
“What an honest view of why you entered business school! My degree is in Marketing (blah blah years ago – lol), and back then, pre social media, only a select few had a personal brand, and those were people like Stephen King, Oprah, and Lee Iacocca. I grew to love Marketing – but honestly – I picked it because when I asked which course in business had the least math… Marketing was it.”
http://veronicaarmstrong.com/ – She demanded a divorce at the New York State fair? You gotta read and find out why. I couldn’t comment because of technical difficulties, but I know I’ll be back! Great photos… @veronicatheblog on Twitter
http://nycitymama.com/2012/08/the-importance-of-purpose-a-message-for-brands-agencies-bloggers/ – I write sponsored posts from time to time, and @carolacain is right about all this. I just hope the PR agencies and brand representatives read this too… Here’s what I had to say. @carolacain on Twitter
“So true! If I feel something (good or bad) about the place or product that I am writing about, it comes so easily. I decided early on, that I wanted to do what I loved, and work hard at it, but it shouldn’t BE hard for me to do. It would be great if brands could understand that we want tell the story of our experience with their brand, not just copy and paste their press releases. It would be a win-win for all of us, right? Very well written, and thank you for the Simon Sinek video.”
http://www.thebabyshopaholic.com/ She is in NYC for Fashion Week and missing her little one. She really does have an itty bitty fashionista on her hands! Here’s my comment. @babyshopa on Twitter
“Such a cute outfit on your baby girl! These days I see them so much that I welcome the break when I have to travel. With my first one, I was so miserable when I left him. I kept pics of him in the glove compartment, on my desk, in my purse… everywhere! I still miss them when I travel, but I have a pic of the whole family on my business card, so I see them all the time!”
http://www.babymakingmachine.com/2012/09/ovulation-strips-b-6-progesterone-cream-bfp.html – Anyone remember how you told everyone you were pregnant? All of mine were pretty eventful, and so is hers. Here is my comment. @babymakingmama on Twitter
