Don&#8217;t forget to add Vieques to your plan. \u00a0It is a 25 minute plane ride from San Juan airport in Puerto Rico to Vieques, and about an hour and fifteen minutes by ferry.<\/p>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<p><strong>ALL THE BEACHES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you and the kids love the beach, then this is the place for you. The beaches are all very well maintained, not crowded, and the ones off of the beaten path are just gorgeous.\u00a0 You can rent a Jeep to check out the ones that are \u00a0a little harder to get to, but it is definitely worth it.\u00a0 No need to bring umbrellas because the coconut trees provide amazing shade. Shelters, parking, all that. Not even crowded. Watch where you are walking.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three really nice beaches to check out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Caracas<\/li>\n<li>Sun Bay (stop by Arenamar SunBay\u2019s Caf\u00e9 and get empanadas and pina coladas)<\/li>\n<li>Black Sand Beach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<p><strong>BIOLUMINESCENT MOSQUITO BAY AKA \u201cBIO BAY\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the kids like Avatar, they will LOVE Mosquito Bay.\u00a0 It is the brightest of the bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico\u2026 and the world.\u00a0 When we went, there were kids as young as three, maybe younger, in the kayaks.\u00a0 Try to schedule your trip at a time when the moon is the least bright, the darker, the better. I have never seen anything like it. We did our tour with <a title=\"Schedule a tour of the &quot;Bio Bay&quot; with Abe's Tours\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abessnorkeling.com\/bio_bay_tour.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"alternate noopener noreferrer\">Abe\u2019s Tours<\/a>, and it was $50 per adult (12 and over), $25 for children (11 and under), and free for children under 4. <\/p>\n<p><strong>FORTIN CONDE DE MIRASOL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your kids are a history buffs like mine, this should be your first stop in Vieques.\u00a0 It is always nice to know the background of where you are visiting, and this fort turned museum is a great place to begin.\u00a0 There are great views, as there are in many parts of the island, but the best part is the history.\u00a0 There are photos and historical artifacts including pottery from the indigenous people, shackles from the slave trade, and many newspaper articles and posters from the protests and subsequent exit of the US military from Vieques.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1714\" Vieques has a lot of great bars and restaurants, so if you are budget conscious, skip shopping for fancy vacation clothes, and just bring cash to eat.\u00a0 Also, most restaurants close around 9 or 10, so don\u2019t let the kids wait too long to eat.<\/p>\n<p> <!--nextpage--> <\/p>\n<p><strong>BONUS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you get an invitation to visit Vieques, what do you do?
