There\u2019s not much more important to Caribbean people than education. Good food is a close second, I\u2019m sure. I always jump at the chance to talk with people about education, so when I was invited to speak on it at the Black Moms Connection Conference in Toronto, I definitely had to be there.<\/p>\n

The Black Moms Connection mission is to provide \u201ca safe and encouraging environment for Black mothers to connect over shared cultural experiences.\u201d They aim to accomplish this mission by, \u201cencouraging and empowering mothers to increase the social, emotional, financial and well-being of the Black family\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

I have been a member of \u00a0the Black Moms Connection Facebook group for quite a while, and the amazing support, love, and comedy that we share is one of the highlights of my Facebook timeline.<\/p>\n

Today, we are more worried about how we will educate our children than ever. \u00a0As moms with children with African heritage, we are concerned that our children will not be treated fairly and with respect by their educators outside of the home.\u00a0 Homeschooling moms, and those who are considering it, are wondering if they are prepared to get their children ready for standardized testing, and eventually, college\u2026 maybe.<\/p>\n

I am honored to have the opportunity to speak about my experience as a homeschooling mom, and participate in a panel discussion on education on Sunday, August 13th<\/sup> at 10:30 am.<\/p>\n

While we do spend time in the group sharing baby pictures, prom photos, and funny stories, there are also discussions of love, sex, relationships, finances, nutrition, health, business, and of course, education (sometimes in patois!). I hope that you will be in Toronto on August 13th<\/sup> to spend the day with me and many other speakers who can\u2019t wait to meet and talk with you.<\/p>\n

About BMC:<\/strong> In January 2015, BMC started as a simple concept to rebuild the idea that it takes a village to raise a child. What started with 20 mothers in the Greater Toronto Area, has grown to well over 6000 members worldwide, with mothers as far as Japan, Kenya and the Caribbean. Black Moms Connection was incorporated as a non-profit organization in November 2016.<\/p>\n
