Considering my age in the photo, probably new!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>My dad, on the other hand, loves new things \u2013 always did.<\/strong> He still gives me all his old stuff when he is ready to buy something new, and I truly appreciate it. He is a karaoke phenom in the town where I grew up, and the kids have his old equipment&#8230; they are next generation karaoke stars.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-2053\" src=\"http:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dad_me_socamom.jpg\" alt=\"On the hood of my mom's car again... it was probably used.\" width=\"800\" height=\"668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dad_me_socamom.jpg 400w, https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dad_me_socamom-300x251.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>On the hood of my mom&#8217;s car in the late 80&#8217;s.. it was probably used.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>I got a glimpse of what it was like to have something new when my dad got a brand spanking new Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera in 1985.<\/strong> It came fully equipped with power windows and door locks, velvety doors, and plush velvet seats, and with a bomb cassette tape that included Luther Vandross\u2019 \u201cNever Too Much\u201d and Deniece Williams\u2019 \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It for the Boy.\u201d I kept those two on repeat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-2054\" src=\"http:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/olds_burgundy_2_socamom.jpg\" alt=\"You really can find anything on Cars.com. It was bigger, with more velvety seats and doors, and tons of leg room. Of course, my dad upgraded once the car was officially mine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since the 88, I got two more cars before I got married. Both used.<\/strong>\u00a0 When I got the last one before I got married, the internet was still new, and buying a car was still a lot of driving around and getting taken by the suavest salesman.\u00a0 Not anymore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How many times did you brace yourself to hear &#8220;still works&#8221; or &#8220;it fits&#8221; when you wanted something as a kid?<\/strong> I mean, there was never an argument to be made when it came to free. New wasn&#8217;t free. In many cases, used was. \u00a0My last car which we got last year is (drum roll please) brand new. We did a ton of research online to find the best deal, and come to find out, this car, with everything we needed cost less to buy new than it did to buy an older model of it used!\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t believe it. Sometimes new IS a better bargain than used. Who knew!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Going car shopping as a family wasn\u2019t going to be feasible because we had been renting a little car that barely fit the five of us in it.<\/strong> \u00a0It was so small that when we were all in it, we had to roll down the windows so as not to fog up the dashboard because all five of us were&#8230; breathing. The breathing of five people overpowered the defogger thing.
