{"id":2444,"date":"2012-04-09T13:57:44","date_gmt":"2012-04-09T13:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/homeschool-vs-traditional-school-interesting-facts\/"},"modified":"2023-09-04T20:35:18","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T02:35:18","slug":"homeschool-vs-traditional-school-interesting-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/homeschool-vs-traditional-school-interesting-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeschool vs. Traditional School: Interesting Facts!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend I went to the dedication for my BFF&#8217;s baby girl. \u00a0We went to Richmond and took all three kids. \u00a0The kids ate, played, ran around outside, chatted with the kids and adults (with the utmost respect), made new friends, and had a fantastic time. \u00a0By BFF&#8217;s sister (a crafting genius at www.giftsbysassafras.com) is an elementary school teacher, and she says, &#8220;If you didn&#8217;t tell me, I never would have known all of your kids are homeschooled. \u00a0They are playing so well with the other kids!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I did confess that they all did take a crack at brick and mortar schools, but as this graphic points out, it is a myth that homeschooled kids are more awkward than traditionally educated children.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t the cool kid in school. \u00a0I was awkward, and so were my friends.<\/p>\n<p>From my limited interaction with exclusively homeschooled kids, this is what I see that is markedly different.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They interact with adults very well, and communicate their thoughts easily. <\/li>\n<li>They evaluate the situation before jumping in and playing with other children. <\/li>\n<li>If they are shy, it has nothing to do with homeschool &#8211; most times as shy as one child is, their sibling is equally as talkative and outgoing.<\/li>\n<li>They have really great manners.<\/li>\n<li>They are confident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sometimes I wonder if people who think homeschooled kids will be socially awkward remember middle and high school at all. \u00a0There were so many kids who couldn&#8217;t perform socially. \u00a0Kids who sat alone at lunch. \u00a0Kids who ate boogers (the one I remember most vividly is a successful attorney now &#8211; I won&#8217;t out him).
