I follow a lot of people. <\/strong> Many of them I wouldn’t have known about if they hadn’t followed me.\u00a0 I am a firm believer in reaching out to people that you think need to know you. Here’s the thing though… I don\u2019t always follow back. <\/strong> I have my reasons. Here are fifteen reasons I probably won’t follow you back. <\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Your description may have \u201cinternet marketing\u201d, \u201cmulti-level marketing,\u201d \u201cincome stream,\u201d \u201cmarketeer (is that anything like a musketeer? Do you have a sword or feathered hat or something interesting at least?),\u201d or some other words that don\u2019t give me the warm and fuzzies. <\/strong>Try words that give me the warm and fuzzies, like “snarky”, “Taco Bell”, “Dr. Who”, or something really funny.\u00a0 Oh, I am also not following SEO experts.\u00a0 Bottom line, if you are one – then I have already been to your website, discovered how amazing you are, and I am already following you.\u00a0 If not… then I guess you aren’t REALLY an expert.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

2. You haven\u2019t tweeted in the last 6 months.<\/strong> I am not going to follow you in anticipation of your next tweet.\u00a0 You tweet monthly\u2026 what if you tweet and I miss it?!? Too much pressure.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

3. You are a teenager.<\/strong> Now this doesn\u2019t apply to those prodigies who tweet about life and philosophy \u2013 only those who have #teamfollowback #teamjustinbieber or #teamanything in their description. Adults who are on teams\u2026 I am cool with\u2026 For the most part.<\/p>\n

6. You have 0 tweets\u2026\u00a0 *crickets*<\/strong><\/p>\n

7. You only tweet quotes. <\/strong>*more crickets \u2013 this time \u2013 louder ones*<\/p>\n

8. You don\u2019t actually talk to anyone \u2013 just send out blog posts and pics of your food.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are a celebrity with over a million followers, and you follow 14 people. <\/strong>Not going to miss out on a really important news, or current event tweet because of an instagram of some grown man posing with his cat decked out in enough diamonds to feed a small nation for a generation. (I have a slight distrust for men with cats anyway \u2013 and a real distaste for those who actually dress them up for any reason other than potential youtube earnings.)<\/p>\n

10. Everything you tweet has been typed out with an accent. <\/strong>Just. Why.<\/p>\n

So yes, I follow a lot of people.\u00a0 I pay attention to their tweets.\u00a0 When someone follows me, I go to their profile and check them out.\u00a0 If I follow back, I have gone through this list with lightning speed, and I am ready to hear what you have to say.\u00a0 If I don\u2019t follow back, and you want to know what’s up \u2013 read this list again \u2013 you\u2019ll know why.<\/p>\n
