{"id":3158,"date":"2012-12-24T20:38:07","date_gmt":"2012-12-24T20:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/caribbean-christmas-traditions\/"},"modified":"2023-09-04T21:34:12","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T03:34:12","slug":"caribbean-christmas-traditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/caribbean-christmas-traditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Caribbean Christmas Traditions: Survey Results!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This month, I posed the question to readers on SocaMom.com, Twitter, and Facebook: What are your Caribbean Christmas Traditions?<\/strong> Responses came from people with connections to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados &#8211; all living in the United States now, and most spending Christmas in America. \u00a0<strong>Many had not been to their home countries, let alone spent a Christmas there, in over ten years&#8230;. yet, many intend on including their Caribbean Christmas traditions in their holiday festivities here in the states.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-3157\" src=\"http:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/anguilla_ornament_socamom.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Happy Holidays from SocaMom.com\" title=\"Happy Holidays from SocaMom.com\" width=\"400\" height=\"867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/anguilla_ornament_socamom.jpg 400w, https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/anguilla_ornament_socamom-138x300.jpg 138w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As far as food goes, respondents are looking forward to pastelles, dhal purie, curry,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.britsacrossthepond.com\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"BritsAcrossthePond.com\" rel=\"noopener\"> pepperpot, garlic pork, sorrel, rum punch, black cake<\/a>, Jamaican Christmas pudding, ginger beer, mauby, jerk lamb roast, and more. \u00a0Most decided to respond anonymously &#8211; probably so that no one (*ahem* &#8211; me) showed up at Christmas dinner with some Tupperware ready to make a plate.
