People ask me all the time – why did you start SocaMom.com?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/span>I honestly love what I do.\u00a0 I get tired, yes. I get fed up, yes. However, I feel like I wouldn\u2019t be able to breathe if I didn\u2019t do it.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my life, I have done so many things that I didn\u2019t enjoy \u2013 ever \u2013 and now I am doing something that makes me happy 95% of the time.\u00a0 I think that\u2019s a pretty good percentage.\u00a0 The other 5% of the time, I am tired, but still pleased with my work.<\/p>\n

I decided to start this blog (which is one of my businesses) \u00a0to share resources for parents with roots in the Caribbean who are raising their children outside of the West Indies. I believe that giving children and parents access to their roots truly empowers and inspires them.<\/p>\n

Once I was able to really experience Caribbean culture as a kid, it changed me, gave me a sense of belonging. I want other children, mine included, to experience that feeling. Greeks, Italians, and Hispanic people in America have that connection \u2013 first, second, third, fourth generation \u2013 they stay connected on purpose. So that is what I want to do with SocaMom.com \u2013 give parents the tools to start conversations about culture that they may not have even considered having with their kids.<\/p>\n

I have added several components to the blog, making it one of the best online destinations for Caribbean parents, as well as an ideal springboard for several ventures that will help continue my mission of keeping families living outside of the Caribbean connected to Caribbean culture. I have recently published my first children’s book, Anancy’s Family Reunion<\/a>, and it is for sale on Amazon.com and here on SocaMom.com. The books are a new part of the business, but I am really enjoying writing my stories, and sharing my work.<\/p>\n

I do what I do because it helps people.\u00a0 It is a great feeling when someone who has become a reader of the blog, and a user of the resources, stops me to tell me how much it has helped them to introduce their children to their heritage.<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s why I decided to start this blog which has become a business \u2013 to provide resources and a community for other parents like me.<\/p>\n
