<\/p>\n

All of my legally working life (I think there were some labor laws broken during my childhood), I have been in search of that thing, that activity that I would love to do, AND make money doing it. \u00a0I have been totally\u00a0successful at figuring out which tasks I really dislike doing, but I have had a harder time really narrowing down the tasks that I love to do.\u00a0 I believe that there are parts of tasks that I enjoy, and parts of those same tasks that I detest.<\/p>\n

I love writing\u2026 <\/strong>don\u2019t love deadlines.<\/p>\n

I love coming up with things to sell\u2026<\/strong> don\u2019t love selling.<\/p>\n

I love planning events\u2026 <\/strong>I don\u2019t love large crowds.<\/p>\n

I love learning new things\u2026<\/strong> I don\u2019t love finding time to apply them to real life.<\/p>\n

I love taking photographs\u2026<\/strong> I don\u2019t love posting them, for fear someone will steal them.<\/p>\n

I love designing educational materials\u2026<\/strong> I don\u2019t love uploading them.<\/p>\n

I have these love\/don\u2019t love things going on in so many areas of my life, not just business, that it has been near impossible to whittle it down to one single task that I just enjoy.<\/p>\n

If I had to choose one, I mean HAD to choose one single task that I enjoy, that would be planning.<\/strong> I love writing things down, dreaming, thinking, running scenarios, mind mapping, all of that.\u00a0 I can\u2019t think of anything about that that I don\u2019t like.<\/p>\n

The best thing about planning \u00a0is that it gives me time to do some adult daydreaming, explore some \u201cwhat ifs\u201d, and get my ideas out of my head.<\/strong> Planning happens when there are no dream killers around.\u00a0 No goal smashers, no party crashers to come in and mess up anything. Just me, my pen and paper (sometimes a napkin or the back of a used envelope), and my thoughts.\u00a0 No one is looking, so everything is possible when I am planning.<\/p>\n

I look back at some of my plans now, and think \u2013 \u201cwhy didn\u2019t I do that?\u00a0 That was so cool.\u201d<\/strong> That, and \u201cI can\u2019t believe I didn\u2019t do that, so and so is probably making a killing off of an idea that I had years ago.\u201d\u00a0 My mom taught me early on that unexecuted ideas are free for the taking, and if you don\u2019t do it, somebody else will.\u00a0 It has happened to me before (several times), and man it hurts. So, I plan.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t just getting ideas down on paper for me \u2013 it is much more than that.<\/p>\n

No matter how crazy it sounds, or how unreachable it seems, I still plan \u2013 planning means that I am really and truly thinking of what I have come up with as a viable activity.<\/strong> I see it as a possibility, not just some dream or idea that is allowed to fade away.\u00a0Execution is, of course, a totally different thing.\u00a0 Even if the opportunity is there, sometimes the finances aren\u2019t.\u00a0 Or the finances are there, and the people needed to execute the plan are not available.\u00a0 Sometimes the people are ready, but I\u2019m way to busy.\u00a0 And so, I plan.\u00a0 I have gone back to websites, resources, and contacts that I bookmarked years ago, to execute things that I am doing today.\u00a0 It really is remarkable to think about.\u00a0 It appears that things happen overnight, when in fact a lot of the things I am doing now, have been YEARS in the making. <\/span><\/p>\n

My Oprah appearance?<\/strong> I was given the book to read a year before I even got married.\u00a0 I had written about the book several times over the past 10 years. And the best part of all\u2026 the book worked for us! We are still married, and actually had something to say about the book that Oprah\u2019s producers wanted to hear.\u00a0 Sure I had the book a decade ago, and I would have loved to have been on Oprah back then, and I didn\u2019t have a plan to be on Oprah\u2019s Life Class \u2013 it didn\u2019t even exist when I read the book, but the planning came in when we were sitting with the counselors, planning to have a great marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n

So that is the task I enjoy most I think \u2013 planning. <\/strong>When I plan, I know what I WANT to happen, but when it is all said and done, my plan is secondary to God\u2019s plan.\u00a0 He has always had better things in store for me and my family than I ever could have planned and executed on my own.<\/p>\n
