\u201cBarbie and her boyfriend are sharing a bed\u2026\u201d announced my baby girl from upstairs, just as matter of factly.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhat did you say?!\u201d I yelled up the stairs.<\/p>\n \u201cBarbie and her boyfriend are sharing a bed. It\u2019s a bunk bed, and they are both sleeping on the bottom bunk,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, no they are not!\u201d I replied.<\/strong><\/p>\n Now, we are talking about Barbie dolls and playtime here.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a teenager telling me what she is doing, or even what a friend is doing.\u00a0 It really isn\u2019t that serious, is it?\u00a0 The heat rising up on my face from an unknown source told me something different.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been married about 10 years, and my oldest is\u2026 well\u2026 older than 10 \u2013 you do the math.\u00a0 Something happened that no Barbie would be allowed to do in this house, so how can I say to her that Barbie and Ken HAVE to get married before they share a bed?<\/p>\n Well, this is one of the few times that I will invoke my right as a Caribbean mom so say, \u201cbecause I said so,\u201d and that be the end of it.<\/strong> Our blended family hasn\u2019t been easy.\u00a0 There are a lot of things that come with sex and babies before marriage that are complicated.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBarbie and her boyfriend are NOT sharing a bed!\u201d I yelled back up the stairs again.\u00a0 \u201cWhat is GOING to happen is – you are going to get Barbie and her boyfriend up out that bed, and get them married if you\u00a0 want them to sleep in the same bed.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou and daddy sleep in the same bed.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026. AND? We are married. You want them sleeping in the same bed, you\u2019d better start planning their wedding.\u201d So she did.<\/strong><\/p>\n Now that I have kids, I often feel like I am tip-toeing on that line between hypocrite and prophet. <\/strong> I wouldn\u2019t give up a second of my life as the mom of my oldest.\u00a0 My only regret is that I couldn\u2019t give him an uncomplicated life story.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want my kids to go through that.\u00a0 That\u2019s fair.\u00a0 That\u2019s not hypocritical \u2013 that\u2019s experience. \u201cDo so, no like so?\u201d Yep. That about sums it up.<\/strong><\/p>\n Somehow she recruited her brother to help her plan what soon became an epic event.<\/strong> I ended up being the florist \u2013 but it involved scissors and markers so my job was soon taken from me.\u00a0 I showed them how to make the bouquets for the bridesmaids and boutonni\u00e8res\u00a0for the groom and his best man.\u00a0 Toilet paper trailed behind them as they ran up the stairs. Baby girl barked instructions, while her brother planned the proposal.
