That\u2019s me. That\u2019s me? That. Is. Me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had a whole range of thoughts and emotions during this photoshoot with my friend Rae<\/a>.<\/strong> Now you guys know Rae<\/a> as that super down to earth, friendly, but straightforward friend that everybody wants to have tea and patty melts with. She is also a really talented photographer who takes photos that make you feel things.\u00a0 I\u2019m no art critic, so that is the best way I can describe it.<\/p>\n

I had an idea for a skirt, and told my super talented cousin about it. <\/strong> Socamom readers know her as Chef Cherry<\/a>\u2026 you have been drooling over videos<\/a> and instagram pics<\/a> that I have taken over the years.\u00a0 What you probably don\u2019t know is that she has another talent that is actually what she does full time.\u00a0 She is an amazing designer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rae loves a candid photo. She documented pretty much every moment with this skirt.<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019d remind me about it from time to time, and with school and homeschool, and the kids, I just never got back over there. Well I went over \u2013 but with food on my mind, not fashion.<\/strong> One day I got a call, telling me to come over and try on the skirt \u2013 and bring my boots.\u00a0 I\u2019m all like \u2013 what skirt?\u00a0 I went over and slid into this gorgeous massive creation. When I tell you that what I had in my mind was there\u2026 on my body\u2026 and then again it wasn\u2019t. It was more. It was more than I ever figured.\u00a0 It was no longer a general idea floating around in my head.\u00a0 She had created much more than I could have imagined or envisioned.\u00a0 I was floored.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My waist? Snatched. I put on the boots and THAT thing\u2026 *swoon*<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Look at that hem. That’s skills. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

That hem hit within a quarter of a centimeter from the floor in the front.\u00a0 It was perfection. AND IT HAD A TRAIN! <\/strong>I flipped it over and the satin\u2026 to this minute I have no idea how she got that hem to do what it did. Magic.<\/p>\n

Cherry had seen some of Rae<\/a>\u2019s photos when she was over by my house, and fell in love with them<\/strong>.\u00a0 After I saw the skirt, I texted pics to Rae<\/a>, and she was excited at the idea of shooting it.\u00a0 Keep in mind that I said \u201cit.\u201d\u00a0 Rae swears that she takes photos of things, not people, so I figured it was going to be perfect. I\u2019d just be a mannequin, and the clothes would look amazing on Cherry\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Yeah… all my insecurities are not even in this photo… Not even sure what I was talking about here.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have avoided the camera since I have gained weight, and I still had some insecurities about various flaws on my body, real or imagined. <\/strong> That day, there was nowhere to hide.\u00a0 I was out at the Lincoln Memorial in front of God and America, and after she put in all that WORK on the skirt? I had no choice but to WERK.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I wasn’t even sitting on anything… squatting. Yep – those heels were that high.<\/span><\/p>\n

I never thought that there could be so many people out in DC at six in the morning.<\/strong> Rae<\/a> wasn\u2019t the only one taking pictures. People were coming up to me to ask to take photos\u2026 with me!\u00a0 I\u2019m like\u2026 um. Okay?\u00a0 People coming by to tell me congratulations\u2026 um\u2026 Okay?\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t see what the skirt looked like, but apparently it was making people feel some kinda way.<\/p>\n

We shot 3 more outfits and called it a day.<\/strong> When I tell you I had to take a nap after seeing the photos? All the naps.\u00a0 I wanted all the sleep.\u00a0 Rae<\/a> casually slid those photos into my inbox like\u2026 here ya go.<\/p>\n

I just sat there like\u2026 That\u2019s me. That\u2019s me? That. Is. Me.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When my husband takes my picture, people are always like\u2026 hey \u2013 that\u2019s such a nice photo of you.\u00a0 I asked him how that happens, and he\u2019s like, \u201cwell\u2026 that\u2019s how I see you.\u201d\u00a0 From then on, I\u2019ve told people who ask me about photos, to get someone who likes you to take it. <\/strong> They\u2019ll find what they like about you and make sure the world sees you in the same awesome light that they see you in. \u00a0The photos didn\u2019t make me look thinner.\u00a0 The skirt didn\u2019t cover up my insecurities.\u00a0 I was out there roaming the city with two people that I love, and who loved me enough to use their individual talents to show the world how they see me.\u00a0 Cherry had her sketchbook and her sewing machine and said, \u201cthis is Eva.\u201d\u00a0 Rae<\/a> had her 50mm lens and her coffee and said, \u201cthis is Eva.\u201d\u00a0 You can\u2019t really ask much more from professionals and friends.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Yes. We were out there cutting up and laughing THIS early.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rae<\/a> and Cherry would say, \u201cyou did your thing, too!\u201d <\/strong>But I was out there being Eva and being difficult\u2026 let\u2019s be honest\u2026 that laughing pic that everyone loves?\u00a0 I was sooooo not following directions.\u00a0 The only thing she said was \u201cstand still.\u201d But the way she said it though? If you know Rae<\/a> and have read her writing? She was dead serious, followed it up with a half chuckle\u2026 with a hint of \u201cI love you, but I will also cut you\u201d and it was hilarious.\u00a0 Cherry bust out laughing, her laugh is contagious, and there you have it.\u00a0 One of the best moments, and photos, of the shoot.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That day taught me three things.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Work with people you like, and who like you.\u00a0 The results will always be better.<\/li>\n
  2. Energy is important. One person working at 50%, while everyone is at 100%? Brings everyone down to\u2026 um\u2026 something lower\u2026 so yeah\u2026 math.<\/li>\n
  3. You don’t have to have an army to do amazing things.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Bottom line, we were all working our hardest for each other.\u00a0 Rae<\/a> wanted to make sure Cherry and I were happy with her photos.\u00a0 Cherry wanted to make sure that Rae<\/a> had something great to photograph, and that I looked my best.\u00a0 I wanted Rae<\/a> to not be embarrassed to share her photos with people, and that I did Cherry\u2019s hard work justice.<\/p>\n
