Since the  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.socamomsummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SocaMom Summit<\/a>, I have had a lot of people asking me, &#8220;how&#8217;d you do that?&#8221; Sometimes they want to know what software I used, but most of the time, it is they want to know HOW &#8211; beyond my choice of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"streaming platform (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/streamyard.com?pal=6383635377160192\" target=\"_blank\">streaming platform<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/faq-s-about-sponsored-posts-what-they-are-and-why-bloggers-write-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"affiliate link (opens in a new tab)\">affiliate link<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fwomenofsiliconvalley%2Fphotos%2Fa.3015401828502762%2F3024889120887366%2F%3Ftype%3D3&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"660\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" allow=\"encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was excited to have the opportunity to share where my love of tech began with <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/caribbeantechies\/eva-greene-wilson-5eece74b5f7c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Women of Silicon Valley (opens in a new tab)\">Women of Silicon Valley<\/a> on their social media platforms &#8211; Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. It didn&#8217;t begin with a computer science teacher or mentor, but with my mom. That&#8217;s why it made it so special to share my story on Mother&#8217;s Day weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>My first computer was the Apple II Plus, and instead of going outside to play, I would spend afternoons making quizzes in BASIC, then demanding that my parents take them.&nbsp; <\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/caribbeantechies\/eva-greene-wilson-5eece74b5f7c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Quote from the Women of Silicon Valley article. She was obsessed with networking and making sure that patient records were not just available in the huge filing cabinets that lined the walls of her office, but also on each screen as she moved from patient room to patient room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" src=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apple2_plus.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apple2_plus.jpg 400w, https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apple2_plus-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption>This is what our first home computer looked like. The monitor varied, depending on what she brought from the office.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I grew up thinking that there was always a smarter and faster way to do things if you used technology. I wanted to automate everything I did. Everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/embed\/feed\/update\/urn:li:share:6664926676088164352\" height=\"602\" width=\"504\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" title=\"Embedded post\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m known for a lot of things, but not usually my tech talents. But when I created the  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.socamomsummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SocaMom Summit<\/a>, a lot of people wondered how was I able to do it so fast, and make it look so good. I can <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"write a book (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/product\/anancys-family-reunion\/\" target=\"_blank\">write a book<\/a>, and I can write a program. I can <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"illustrate a book cover (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/product\/winston-wont-go-the-illustrate-me-edition-anancy\/\" target=\"_blank\">illustrate a book cover<\/a>, and I can design an app prototype. When it was time to get the  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.socamomsummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SocaMom Summit<\/a>.  done, I had to use both my creative and technical skills.<\/li><li><strong>I readily accept help and advice from trusted friends and family. <\/strong>I have people around me that BELIEVE that I can do it all, but who also advise me that I don&#8217;t have to. My husband helped me find the best combination of tools to get the website set up, and my friends helped me with finding streaming platforms as well as logistics.<\/li><li><strong>I don&#8217;t like being told, &#8220;no.&#8221; <\/strong>I had spent time and good money planning the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"SocaMom Summit (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.socamomsummit.com\" target=\"_blank\">SocaMom Summit<\/a>. It was to be an in-person conference for US. I had to get a \u201creal job\u201d with \u201creal benefits\u201d and ended up finding a position as an administrative assistant, which allowed me to take care of myself and my son. When I started, I discovered that the company needed a significant technology overhaul. So I migrated their database from an antiquated DOS-based system, as well as automated several of their time-consuming tasks. It was met with high praise, but when the executive director came to meet me, he said, \u201cI had no idea you were a Black woman.\u201d Shortly after that, I was told there&#8217;d be no chance of me advancing beyond administrative assistant in that company \u2014 ever. It was quite a blow. I had been coding in my free time, making websites for personal projects, so eventually, I left that job and decided I&#8217;d use my coding skills to be an entrepreneur and support our little family.
