So many people post about the obvious (and important) trailblazers like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., but I&#8217;m going to take this month to share Caribbean American people who have contributed to Black History in America and in the diaspora and may not be as well known, starting with my own family. If my mom and dad hadn&#8217;t come to the United States and made their own contributions to their communities, SocaMom wouldn&#8217;t exist, so for our community &#8211; they are pretty important, no?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few years ago, I did a mini-documentary about <a href=\"https:\/\/socamom.com\/w\/black-history-month-my-father-s-journey-to-the-united-states\/\">my dad&#8217;s journey to the United States<\/a>, and it is still one of my favorite interviews to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"My Father&#039;s Journey to the United States | SocaMom\u00ae\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_WkhOx65DG0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would love to share your Black History as a Caribbean American person on Instagram.
