“You could easily win the Voice this year… there’s not a doubt in my mind.” – Adam Levine
Look at this page takeover by Jamaica’s Tessanne! On last night’s show, he 28 year old got a video big up and encouragement from none other than mentor Jimmy Cliff. She toured with him for three years and considers that time a highlight of her career.
The background segment focused on her multi-racial background, and her love for Reggae music. Last night on NBC’s The Voice, her father, husband, and friend stood backstage as all four chairs turned around in quick succession. She hadn’t made it through the first verse of the song, and the judges sat half listening, half trying to think of what they would say to get her to join their teams.
“This is going to be a dirty… dirty fight,” said Adam Levine after Tessanne Chin completed her rendition of “Try”.
Ceelo said, “You sung that song like a grown woman,” and she replied, “Thank you, Mr. Ceelo, I AM a grown woman…”
She made it seem easy, but not effortless. You could tell put everything into the performance, and as each judge begged for her to join their team, she remained gracious, humble, and charming.
Apparently all they needed her to do was speak the words, “bread and butter” in that gorgeous accent, and she would have made it through to the next round.
“Oh my God! Can you just TALK to us?” asked Christina Aguilerra.
At the end of the evening, after having saved the best for last, Adam Levine won, and she joined his team.
Adam: My favorite music comes from where you’re from
Tessanne: True?
Adam: Reggae music is the greatest thing in the world to me.
Tessanne: Thank you, that’s a big honor.
Adam: It would have been the mistake of a lifetime to not turn around for you, ’cause you got something crazy special.
After he had professed his love for reggae, for her, and her talent – I was thinking he was the obvious choice. Apparently, she was too! I can’t wait to see how she does in the upcoming shows…
