Caribbean American Heritage Awards Gala 2013 #CARAH

Tonight I attended the Caribbean American Heritage Awards in DC produced by the Institute of Caribbean Studies.  The beautiful Caribbean people of the Washington, DC area and beyond came out to celebrate Caribbean achievement, eat, drink, and be merry.

So many of the honorees thanked their parents for their love and focus on education.  Love it!

The Honorees were:

Camille Wardrop Alleyne Ed.D. (Trinidad) – Nasa Rocket Engineer/Space Scientist

Excellence in Science and Technology Award

Leanna Archer (Haiti) – Teen Entrepreneur

Visioneur Award

Etienne Charles (Trinidad) – Jazz Musician and Composer

Trail Blazer Award

Guy Harvey, Ph.D. – World-Renown Oceanographer & Marine Artist

Luminary Award

Jimmy Jean-Louis (Haiti) – Model and Actor

Excellence in The Arts Award

Freddy McGregor (Jamaica) – Reggae Artist

Lifetime Achievement Award

Shala Monroque (St. Lucia) – Creative Director & Style Maven

Vanguard Award

Deborah Persaud, M.D. (Guyana) – Pediatric HIV-AIDS Researcher

Outstanding Contribution to Medicine Award

Kim Watson (Jamaica) – Corporate Community Leader

Outstanding Community Service Award
