Sold! How Do YOU Sell Yourself? #blog4biz – Day 15

How would you complete this sentence? “I sell myself ___________…”

I think I sell myself…

  1. Very poorly – I would rather do the work and have someone else who believes in what I am doing to sell it for me.  I remember someone recognizing me and asking me if I wrote Anancy’s Family Reunion.  I almost said ‘no’ to avoid having to sell myself or the book.  Luckily, my husband is outgoing and a fantastic salesman, so my book is getting into the hands of a lot of families – no thanks to me (other than writing the book)!
  2. Not often enough – I usually only mention what I do if someone asks a question directly related to it.  I don’t just come out and say, “Hi, my name is Eva and I am a Caribbean American parenting blogger who writes about the Caribbean and is obsessed with shoes and Netflix.”  Doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.  I should make sure that people know what I am doing, because I am working pretty hard to provide what I do for my readers – people won’t be able to use it, appreciate it, and share it, if I never tell them about it.
  3. Softly – I’m a soft seller.  The soft sell is defined as a “subtly persuasive selling method.” If I am posting online, I am more aggressive about putting my requests for business out there, but in person? I am definitely more of a soft seller.  I use my marketing materials, online and off, to do my selling for me.  It may not get me the volume of sales that hard selling might, but it is the method that I am most comfortable with.
  4. In stages – I tend to “court” my potential customers.  I want them to get to know me first, get to know all that the website has to offer for free, then get to know what paid products that I am offering through the website.
  5. Quickly – I am a get in, get out, kind of person.  I don’t want to waste anyone’s time, just like I don’t like my time wasted, so I have a quick way to describe what I have to offer, and that’s that. Right now, my main product is Anancy’s Family Reunion, so I have my quick sale speech for that.  The most important person that has a sales speech is my husband.  He could sell a book to me  – he’s THAT good…

How would you finish the sentence? I sell myself _____________…
