Interview with Yoga Master Anthony Williams and A Thousand Words #Movie #Contest

Tonight, I am going to get to check out a pre-screening of Eddie Murphy’s “A Thousand Words”!  The idea of only having 1000 words to speak before I die is pretty frightening.  I am not super chatty, but I talk enough that I’d be long dead by tomorrow if I was only given 1000 to use!

Summary (from Paramount Pictures):

Eddie Murphy is Jack McCall, a fast-talking literary agent, who can close any deal, any time, any way. He has set his sights on New Age guru Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis) for his own selfish purposes. But Dr. Sinja is on to him, and Jack’s life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are toast. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he’s got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he’s a goner.

I just wrapped up a fantastic interview with Anthony Williams (www.empowermentyoga.com)- Yoga Instructor to the stars (as well as at risk youth).  He shared with me how talking less really can help you live longer! The entire interview is available here – http://www.blogtalkradio.com/socamom/2012/03/08/1000-words-or-less-benefits-of-yoga-with-anthony-williams – at 6:00 pm today so that you can take a listen during your commute, or whenever you have time.

Selected questions from my interview with Anthony Williams:

Eva: We are all talking non stop, and it can be stressful, and we know that stress kills. Do you feel like the time that people spend NOT talking, just in a yoga class can actually ADD time to our lifespan?

Anthony: Even the cell phone needs a time to rest. Even the cell phone has to be plugged back up. It’s not useful to us if we don’t recharge it. We are the same. We have to recharge ourselves. Everything in nature needs to rest. We are used by the technology, not using the technology. We need to learn how to use the technology to have closer and more meaningful relationships with the people that we love. All this technology really takes us away from human touch, human contact.

Eva: What health clues should we look out for in our daily lives to let us know that we need a practice like yoga?

Anthony: When you feel that you are too busy to do yoga, or when you feel that you are too busy to just sit and be quiet for 30 minutes – that’s when you need yoga. If you don’t have 30 minutes to sit quietly, eat a meal quietly, or take a walk – you need yoga.

Eva: The movie revolves around the idea that we are connected to nature, it effects us, we effect it, and there is a cycle. The premise of the movie is pretty powerful for a comedy, do you feel like a comedy is a good way to introduce the concept to the masses?

Anthony: People don’t like to be preached to, but they like to laugh. [Comedy] is a sneaky way, and ancient technique – to have people laugh, and come away with something [and end up] crying in [their] car. When I am working with the kids, I use a lot of humor and just lay it out for them.

Eva: If you had only ten words to use in a day, they don’t have to be in a sentence, what would those ten words be?

Anthony: …I. Love. You. I don’t need the ten. I don’t even need the words – because if I love you you’ll SEE that, I won’t even have to say it.
