June is Caribbean American Heritage Month, and celebrations are happening all over the country. In DC, Grace foods is helping foodies celebrate by bringing their famous jerk festival to the streets of downtown Washington. Kids under 12 are free, and would probably be interested in trying out jerk burgers, hot dogs, jerk ice cream or jerk popcorn. There is also a Kids area with games and kid friendly activities. Adults pay $20 in advance, or $30 the day of the event, to sample a variety of Jerk dishes such as chicken, pork, fish, lobster (pictured).
The event takes place on Sunday, June 19, on Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. between 12th and 14th streets, from noon to 9:00 p.m. Organizers of the event say that “the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival DC will highlight the food, music and culture of the Caribbean.” Celebrity chefs will compete in a jerk cook-off to see who takes home the Dutch Pot Trophy.
