1962.  Doesn’t seem like that long ago, does it?  It isn’t.  In the early 1900’s,  in the US, there were Jamaicans, like Marcus Garvey working hard for the rights of African Americans, when it would be another 50 years before Jamaica would achieve its own freedom.

Fifty years ago TODAY, on August 6, 1962, Jamaica officially achieved full independence.  Events have been going on all year to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence from Britain. Here are some of the events going on, as listed on http://jamaicacgmiami.org.
