2012 – Looking Back… Looking Ahead: The End Will Have to Wait

If we have entered the beginning of the end with our entry into December 2012, we only have 8 days after today before the apocalypse.

The beginning of the end? I don't think so... :: SocaMom.com

Well, I’m not buying it. The end of the world will have to wait because a) the Word says that we won’t see it coming, so having a firm date for the end is a dead giveaway that it isn’t happening… at least not EXACTLY on the 12th. b) Sandy was pretty bad, but I wouldn’t say that it was Armageddon bad… I mean Revelations bad? Not quite. Still bad though. c) I have way too much to do in 2013, so I’ll need a little more time from God if he is willing to give me health, strength, and sound mind and body to go with it.

Looking back at 2012, it was pretty awesome.

  • I was able to meet some great bloggers at conferences like Blogging While Brown, the 2:1 Conference, and BlogHer.
  • My visits increased by 69% from January to the end of November.
  • I learned how to post at least 5 out of 7 days a week.
  • I figured out a well rounded social media plan, that allows me to participate in Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, as well as offline groups like Meetup.
  • I had the opportunity to interview Essence Editor in chief Constance White, Fashion trailblazer Anya Ayoung-Chee, Jamaican TV personality and beauty queen, Kamila McDonald Alcock, Trinidadian stage and screen actress Hazelle Goodman, and other leaders in the Caribbean community – which was a goal of mine for the blog.
  • The cultural education component of SocaMom.com was launched, and the coloring and activity sheets have gotten over 1000 downloads since I started adding them in late October.
  • SocaMom.com was named Best New Blog and Best Parenting Blog in the Black Weblog Awards.
  • One of my blog posts was printed in b3 Caribbean Magazine and republished on Outlish.com.

Looking forward to 2013, I believe that it will be great too.

I have completed the project plan (with the help of my very organized project manager husband) for 2013, and it is lookin like the year is going to be fantastic.  I can’t go into all the details, but I shared some of it in my recent interview with Karel from Outlish Magazine.  Next year I plan to attend several of the conferences to meet new bloggers, reconnect with bloggers that I met at previous conferences, and hopefully come back with fresh ideas for SocaMom.com.

Thanks for hanging out with me for 2012!
