Celebrating 10K Tweets: Twitter #marriagechat with @blackandmarried’s @RonnieTyler and @LamarTyler

This was my 10,000th tweet!

I was participating for the first time in Marriage Chat (#marriagechat) with Ronnie Tyler, and her husband and business partner in blackandmarriedwithkids.com, Lamar Tyler. It is scheduled for Wednesday nights at 9 pm EST.

They asked some great questions – so great that it was hard to stop chatting once the Twitter Chat was over! Here are the 6 questions, and my answers:

@MarriageChat asked – Q1: What do you think is the current State of Marriage? #Marriagechat

@SocaMomDC answered – A1: @ronnietyler I think there’s a new generation of married couples that are excited about getting, being, & staying married. #marriagechat

@MarriageChat asked – Q2: What led us to this current state where you are hearing about more divorces than weddings? #MarriageChat

@SocaMomDC answered – A2: Folks are interested in drama, so people talk about that. You can only say, “oooh look how happy they are!” so many times. #marriagechat

@SocaMomDC answered – A2: TV helps too. Reality shows say you can fall in love fast, get married fast (w/an over the top wedding), and divorce fast. #marriagechat

@MarriageChat asked – Q3: What’s the diff. btwn marriage now & marriage 50 yrs ago? Did people stay married longer? Why?#Marriagechat

@SocaMomDC answered – A3: I don’t think it is that people were willing to work harder back then, the deal breakers were just different. #marriagechat

@MarriageChat asked – Q4: What can we do to support the institution of marriage in our communities? #MarriageChat

@SocaMomDC answered – A4: Find other couples that have the same values & desire to make that lifetime commitment. Support and encourage each other. #marriagechat

@MarriageChat asked – Q5: Who should be responsible for turning this marriage crisis around (government, churches, individuals?) #MarriageChat

(didn’t answer this one…)

@blackandmarried asked – Q6: Are marriage ideals such as head of household, submission, etc, outdated? Or do we need to get back to the basics? #Marriagechat

@SocaMomDC answered – A6: @blackandmarried It was hard at first to go the traditional route, since I wasn’t raised that way, but it really works… #marriagechat
